Curated AV Experience Loops: Packaging Tokyo Into Routes People Will Pay For

Shinjuku night lights, Omoide Yokocho, the Odaiba waterfront loop — why pre-set autonomous routes are a better product than an empty destination field, and how they should be designed.

An empty 'where to?' box is the worst interface you can hand a tourist. It assumes knowledge they do not have and produces the safest, dullest possible answer. Pre-set experience loops invert that: the product proposes, the visitor edits.

What a loop is

A loop is a named, timed, geographically coherent sequence of stops with a defined pickup point, a defined end point, and a story that connects them. 'Shinjuku Night Lights & Omoide Yokocho' is a loop. 'Odaiba Futuristic Waterfront' is a loop. 'Points of interest near you' is not.

Loops are also the unit that can be priced, reviewed, ranked and shared. A destination field cannot be any of those things.

Design rules that separate good loops from filler

• Every stop must have a viable vehicle drop-off. Kerbside reality prunes a surprising number of otherwise attractive stops.

• Loops should be time-of-day specific. The same district is a different product at 10:00 and 22:00.

• Include at least one stop the visitor would not have found alone; that is the entire justification for curation.

• Keep total duration honest, transit included. Overpromising is how a concierge loses trust in one session.

• Provide a wet-weather variant for any loop with outdoor stops.

Districts that carry a loop

Shinjuku for nightlife density and the Yokocho alleys. Ginza for retail and high-end dining. Asakusa for heritage and river access. Roppongi for art and late hours. Odaiba for waterfront, architecture and the drive itself, which is one of the few routes in Tokyo where the journey outperforms the destination.

Why this matters for an autonomous fleet

Operators want predictable demand and repeatable routes. Curated loops supply exactly that: known origins, known destinations, known dwell times. A curation layer that generates structured, repeatable demand is a partner to a fleet, not a competitor.

Nothing here is running yet. These are the route archetypes an early-stage build is designed around.
